Tungsten is a hard refractive metal that has almost the same density as gold (19.3g cm-3).  From a home chemistry perspective the element is not that exciting as most of its compounds are colourless and in the group oxidation state of +6.

There are three areas worth exploring;  Tungstates of other metals, reduction to blue species in lower oxidation states and also compound ions.
